Sweet Sixteen Planning: Let the Magic Begin

in Planning

Last week I discussed the necessary steps that are vital in the beginning phases of sweet sixteen planning. This week I will be discussing the final steps to make this sweet sixteen a super sweet party event to be remembered!

Step 9 – Book Hair, Nail and makeup appointments

Hair and nail salons can book pretty quickly. Ideally you want to book these appointments 6-8 weeks prior to the event date.

Special note regarding April and May months
Do not plan your sweet sixteen the same weekend as the Prom. Your turn out will not be great. It’s too hard to convince peers to skip prom to come to your party, so make sure to plan accordingly. Another thing to keep in mind is if you are holding your sweet sixteen party during the same month as prom; the weeks prior to the prom means the salons and makeup artists could be booked with pre-event appointments. Meaning appointments that are used to try out makeup and hair up-dos, like practice appointments.

Step 10 – Invitations and Dress Shopping
You can order you invitations online or from a stationary store. If you choose to print up your own, you can purchase invitation kits from your local craft store that will have little accessories to fancy up your invites. You can also print up invites by purchasing blank card kits from office supply stores.

Don’t email invites. No matter how tempting it may seem to use a service such as evite.com sometimes these invites get sent to a person’s junk mail right away so they can miss your invitation. Not to mention part of the fun of a Sweet Sixteen party is personally handing out your invites to classmates. Family members will benefit from receiving a paper invite in their mailbox. It makes it easier to mark special events on their social calender.

Plan on mailing out your invites at least 4-6 weeks in advance. If your party happened to be during the holiday season then I would send an event announcement 8 weeks in advance.

An event announcement is a quick one page card that briefly announces your event, the date and time with an emphasis on “marking the date” on their calender.

During this time of sending out invites, you should start shopping for a dress if you haven’t already started. If you purchase a dress from a dress shop, it could take 6-8 weeks to order the gown and another week for alterations.

If you aren’t going to buy your dress already in stock and prefer a tailor made dress, consider buying from Dress Shop. not only will you get a dress that suits your liking, body and your party theme but you can expect to receive your dress 5-6 weeks upon ordering it.

Step 11 – Order Sweet Sixteen Party Decorations and Favors
Decide on what decor items and favors you want and either shop for them in your local craft store or purchase them online. Again, if you are ordering online you should order these 4-6 weeks prior to the event.

Step 12 – Transportation
If you are renting a limousine, you should be doing so 4-6 weeks prior to the event too!

Whew! You did! You planned for your sweet sixteen party! It’s time to enjoy!
