Sweet Sixteen Planning: A Step-by-Step Guide

Planning an event can be stressful and overwhelming. Sometimes sweet sixteen party planning can snowball and be just as stressful as planning a wedding. It doesn’t have to be stressful. There are steps you can take to make planning your sweet sixteen party go smoothly and stress-free.

So take a deep breath, grab a cup of tea and relax. Don’t worry you’re not alone. Many girls are always concerned about party ideas for sweet sixteen celebrations and how-tos. This guide is to help you take the essential steps to planning your Super Sweet Sixteen Party.
Step 1 – Jump out of the floodgates with organization
Huh? We need to start this off on the right step so we need to be organized!

Run out to an office supply store and purchase a monthly planner but make sure it has a “notes” section and not just a monthly calander. You can find one for about $12.00.
You can find Party Planner Organizers from bookstores for about $17.00. I prefer the Party Planner Organizers types, over the monthly planner because they feature pockets and tabbed sections for easy access.
Get The Ultimate Theme Party Planner! This ebook includes: unique theme ideas, imaginative ideas, menu ideas and recipes, shopping lists and one click shopping, check lists and low cost ideas.

Step 2 – Decide on the size of the party
Is this going to bean intimate party with a few friends or is it going to be a grand affair with lots of friends from school and family?

Step 3 – Budget
Boo! I know no one likes to hear the word budget but you need to be realistic. Money doesn’t grow on trees and you don’t want to plan such a party and go over budget which can cause not only MORE stress on the planning but also put yourself into debt. No sense into getting into debt over a sweet sixteen party. Besides you are gonna need to do that for her wedding in a few years. I kid! I know you don’t want to even think about your baby girl getting married yet. You have some time still. :)

Start using that organizer now. You should designate a page solely to your budget. You will need to list all the items needed for the party and designate an approximate cost for each item on the list.
Examples of things to budget for:

  • Venue rental fee
  • Food
  • Decorations
  • Entertainment (DJ, band and other entertainers)
  • Transportation (if you will be transporting guests in a service such as a limousine)
  • Favors
  • cake
  • Invitations
  • For the Sweet 16 birthday girl/boy

  • Dress or outfit if it’s themed
  • shoes
  • Jewelry and accessories
  • Hair and makeup
  • manicure

Step 4 – Decide on a Theme
Ok, now onto some details. You probably want something unique but at the same time you don’t want your friends to think the party is lame or “cheap”.
Browse our Sweet Sixteen Themes for some ideas.

Ok now that you have your theme you can really get your feet wet into the sweet sixteen planning!
