Sweet Sixteen Party Idea “Hawaiian Luau”

in Ideas and Themes

Aloha! This sweet sixteen party idea is an easy theme that can be quite cost efficient and loads of fun.

Where to host it
During colder weather – think about holding it in a community center or clubhouse
For the warmer weather – if you do not have access to a huge backyard and swimming pool, think about renting out a sports club space. Many athletic clubs rent out areas of their club, including usage of the pool.

Entertainment
Hire hula dancers and fire dancers. This type of entertainment is just a phone call away in your local yellow pages. You can also turn this theme in a Murder and Mystery event.

Get interactive
Have the hula dancers teach the crowd some hula moves or host a hula dance contest.

Another game idea would be to get some hula hoops and let your guests do their best to be the last one hula hooping in a hoop-off!

Menu
Feature lots of fresh fruit such as pineapple, mango and coconut. You can also use whole un-cut, un-opened fruit as decor on the tables. Another amazing idea is this Pineapple Palm Tree Tropical Fruit Display. It is gorgeous and gives a tropical feel to your party.

To go along with this theme it is a good idea to order a roasted pig. If you do not eat pork, think about BBQing fresh fish and other meats marinated in citrus flavorings.

Create a tiki “bar” with lots of Hawaiian Luau decorations such as leis, grass skirts and paper palm trees.

Serve Hawaiian punches or juices from your tiki bar. Serve guava juice or make a Sherbert Guava Punch.

Sherbert Guava Punch

  • 1 can of frozen guava juice, thawed (or any other tropical juice)
  • 1/2 gallon of Sherbert ice cream (rainbow, raspberry or orange works well)
  • 1 liter of 7-up soda, chilled
  • Some ice if desired

In a large punch bowl first add the guava concentrate (do not pre- mix with water), then add the 7-up slowly. Next add scoops of sherbert and allow the sherbert to float around ontop of the punch. Add more soda or sherbert to your liking.

Luau pineapple bowlsI saw these Luau pineapple bowls and thought they would fit this theme wonderfully and are a great way to have snack items such as fresh fruit, nuts, crackers and cheese, chips and candy out for your guests.

For the Sweet 16 birthday girl or boy
To let them stand out; have a lei made out of fresh flowers to be worn throughout the celebration. Meanwhile guests can wear purchased artificial leis.

You can try google searching with “fire dancers your city name” and see what comes up. Make sure you use the quotes in the search box too because that will help find websites with that exact match.
