Throw an old fashioned Masquerade Ball.
Is it a little creepy? Yes.
Is it unique? Yes.
Will your guests remember this sweet 16 party as the best party ever? Heck yea!

Attire:
Make sure that masks are required in order to enter the party, that way you get everyone to particpate. You may also want to purchase some party masks to set by the door should some guests forget one.
Classic attire is appropriate. Think dresses you would wear to a prom when shopping for your dress. Encourage your guests to be in full character costumes while avoiding the Halloween monster tip of costumes.
Food:
You can make this simple with platters containing sandwiches, cheese and crackers, fruit and offer a chocolate fondue fountain with rice crispy bites, sliced bananas, strawberries and snicker bites.
Or have it catered and pick foods your guests will enjoy such as chicken and pasta dishes and Italian dishes.
Entertainment:
Have a contest for the person who can keep their mask on the longest for the evening.
Hire a DJ for dancing of course!
Plan a Murder Mystery Game and leave clues for your guests to discover who the murderer at the ball is.

This is awsome. im actually plannin’ my 13th though.
But still…!!!???>>>
<3 PEACE&;
i think it awesome too i am using this also for my daugthers 13th
hi i was wondering do u have any other tips cause im planing to have a medievil masqueraade sorta ball for my 21st birthday any tips would be greatly thanked.
Oh a medieval masquerade ball sounds fun! Since you are turning 21, you could really get your guests involved. They will be more likely to take the theme seriously and put together the proper attire.
You definitely will need a dance floor so I would look into renting out some sort of hall or room. as mentioned before, a community center like at a park would be a great venue.
As far as entertainment goes, if your friends would be up for it you could hire a ballroom dance instructor. Even if she came in for just an hour to give a quick lesson. I think they guys might be put off of it at first but since they will be in costume with masks on, they can buck up. lol If you did hire an instructor, i would have her come about 30-40 minutes after your party starts, that way you leave enough time for the late guests to arrive for the lesson.
Hi! OK, so I’ve looked everywhere for plans for my 13th Birthday masquerade party that I’m throwing next weekend, so far, this is the best, but I still need a couple of pointers. The party is gonna be in my backyard with lights hung on all the trees and two buffet tables set out. Only the girls are gonna be wearing masks, which are being provided. Since my friends and I are only 13, I’m afraid that the guys will get really bored with just dancing… Any suggestions on what else we can do?
Thank you sooo much!
Hi Becca,
Boys will get bored easily. I think you need to incorporate some kind of fun games for them like Balloon Truth or Dare.
Items needed:
10 Balloons
pens wot write with
10 index cards that are cut in half (so a total of 20 cards)
How to play: write 10 truths and 10 dares on the index cards. Place 1 card in each ballloon and blow them up. To start the game, a player picks a balloon and pops it, then reads the truth or dare and the game goes on from there.

Money is an issue in my household, and I don’t want my sweet sixteen party to be boring, cheap looking, and really bad. How do I make my Masquerade party look like it would cost a lot, in terms of looking REALLY good, but have it be a reasonable price? But also have everything be what I’ve always dreamt it would be like?
I am planning my sweet sixteen that is going to be in about a year (august 2012) and i was wondering if i am wearing a hot pink or white dress would it take away from the masquerade theme?
I feel so i think you should you in to ancient or rust colors. like eggshell nd muave.
Hey Sophia, so I’m planning my 16th too and I’ve decided to make it a modern masqurade. The theme is Black-white-silver and all the guests will be wearing those shades while my gown is turquiose so I will stand out. I don’t think it takes away the masqurade theme at all, it just adds a little 21st century to it. I hope this helped and you have the ball you’re dreaming of
heyyy, i have the same question as Sophiia but i want to keep the “phantom of the opera” theme, and my dress is a rustic red, what do you guys think?
Heyy
I’m doing my theme same as yours, black-white-and silver, nd I am going to make dress in black nd white nd ther masks be in color but I don’t kno what color dress to get. My mask is a really pretty aqua color. Any ideas???
Im planning a masquerade party but i dnt have any ideas of wat im goin to do or wear… please ideas anyone…
Look for dresses what has corset or a corset make…if you dont know what a corset is look it up.
But dress ideas look for prom or something you would wear at a wedding and ideas! Dont make it a hassle for everyone to dress in the masquerade theme.Try only you and the intertior of your venue to make them feel their in a medieval setting.
-Ciao:)
Hi. Am having Masqueade Sweet 16 party in (March 2012) and i am mixing the set up it’s not just Masqueade its Modernize and it’s a Cocktail Set up and am not forcing everyone to dress in the normal outfits. Only me and my v.i.p girls are going to wear corset dress which have a modern twist but everyone will be force to get involve by wearing the traditional eye masks.
But I need ideas or help how I can evenly bring in my Modern twist Cocktail Masquerade party.
And am thinking about making a signature drink to represent the cocktail part.
hi! try wearing more modern dress. like insted of a corset, wear a short cocktail dress with a matching mask.
hope it helped!
This was great information for me! We will be having a Sweet 16 party for my daughter and she wants the theme to be a Candy Masquerade…..so I am trying to get some ideas for it…..Her birthday is in March so it gives me 4 months to plan…..Anyone have any ideas I am all ears….thanks!
Hi Jennie,
I love the idea of a Candy Masquerade theme. So are you thinking of including candy all over within the decor too? If you are, I am picturing a “Hansel & Gretel” type theme. Making the main event room looking like the inside of a candy house.
There would be a lot of work but it you get the family to help out it won’t be too bad. Buy some plywood from Home Depot and have someone cut out candy shapes like lollipops and candy bars.
Make a giant M&M by cutting the board into a circle and getting some cheap red (green or whatever M&m colors you like) fabric and then some cotton for stuffing. Use fabric paint to paint the M’s on the fabric and after it dries lay it face down and then get your board and a staple gun. Pull the fabric to meet the back of the board and staple away. Just leave some space so you can stuff the stuffing in between the board and the material to give it a 3-dimensional look. It will look dome shaped when done.
Check out this blog. She has some great candy theme ideas.
Hey!
So I’m planing my sweet sixteen and I don’t know what kind of theme to do. I want something orginal, as I’m not the coolest girl in my high school (its a very very small school). I have no idea what to do. HELP!

Okay, so my Sweet 16 is in March and I’m planning a Masquerade Party. I have no idea what to do for games, but I saw’ll the Murder Mystery Game and I like that. How would that work? If you could help me out with that, that would be AWESOME!!!
I am having my Sweet 16 in March and I’m planning a Masquerade Party and I am having a difficult time with coming up with games fo rthe guest. I was wondering if you could explain the Murder Mystery Game that was mentioned? It sound really interesting
I am hearing a lot of questions about possible cheaper options for these party’s.
As a Costumer myself, i always look in vintage and thrift stores. they have cheaper dresses, and are much older and Era themed.
(Flossy Mcgrew’s in Denver, arc, ect)
For event space, there are many options, you can rent space, like a dance hallway or an event center, but i’ve also had friends do it in their backyard.
i hope this helps.
Hi… I am NOT planning my birthday. But i will be graduating from H.S in a year and i want to make it a masquerade theme. there will be people of all ages. i am planning a dance, like the ones you see in the Jane Austin movies… Do you think this is a good idea?
I am trying to plan a surprise 16th birthday for my daughter, who hasn’t had a birthday party since she was 8, so I really like the candy masquerade, but how should she dress and what about the script for the murder mystery! I was also thinking of the Wonderland theme, but not sure how to do that for the boys. Any help would be appreciated.
