Mad Hatter’s Sweet 16 Party Theme: Solving Alice’s Murder

This is the another post for the Mad Hatter’s Sweet 16 birthday party theme. Last week I gave you the character profiles for Planning Alice’s Murder. Now we move onto getting the game started. This is when you actually play the game out and try to solve the murder mystery.

You will want your guests to find out 3 things:

  • Who is the murderer?
  • What was the motive?
  • What was the weapon?

Each guest should have a small notepad and a pencil. There should also be a table just off to the side of your tea party table that has a box with a slit so that guests can place their final answers in which can be revealed just before the party ends.

Let the games begin!

Decide how you will want your guests to try and figure out clues. This can be done by talking with one another at the tea in which you can have them can go around the table and ask questions.

You can also use clue cards. You are going to write a clue on a card and place it in a sealed envelope. You can decide if you want to have a clue for each guest or just 2-3 clues total.

You can decide at what point to allow the clues to be opened. The clues can point at a particular person or just gives a general hint. Clues targeting guests will allow a more interactive game play because guests will need to defend themselves based off of the character profiles you gave them at the beginning.

For example some clues might be:

A bloody weapon was found by the Caterpillar’s mushroom

The Rose said she overheard Alice talking to the March Hare about some mint tea.

To end the game
After a certain amount of time has passed, have your guests write their final answers on a slip of paper from their notepad and place it in the box. Then after cake and gifts you can reveal the answers in the box and then the real answer. Be sure to have a prize ready for your winners and you may even want to have a 2nd and 3rd prize as back ups in case there is more than one winner.

Hey, First of all thankyou so much for everything you’ve written, this is an amazing idea that I love so much.
I was wondering if you would be willing to give more information on how you dealt with the clues and the investigation for both for murderer and the innocents? I’ve been trying to write up the missing bits for a tea party I’m throwing best friend, but I’m not over creative and want to make sure people are able to complete the game!
    Thanks :-)
